Kiosk FAQ

Q: Can Kiosk-in-a-Box Display Information From a Database?
A: Yes. You can display information contained in a Microsoft Access database.

Q: Can I Display More Than Just Text?
A: Yes. You may display text, pictures and/or sounds. The downloadable demo has four database examples that access a database and show you how to do it.

Q: Can I Perform an Initial Selection When Displaying a Screen with Database Aware Objects?
A: Yes. When you first access a screen (which you may design any way you like) that has a database connection defined, you may optionally perform an initial selection on the database.

Q: Can I Perform New Selections?
A: Yes. Any on-screen object can be assigned the touch-action of "new selection".

Q: Can I Perform a Selection Based Upon User Input?
A: Yes. You may design an interface that collects user input and then performs a search based upon their input.

Q: Can a "Grid" Be Created?
A: Yes. You may have a unlimited number of objects on-screen that display values from your database selection. The "grid" may be any size you like.

Q: Can Users Scroll Through My Custom Grid?
A: Yes. You may create button-like objects and assign them the touch-action of "scroll database". You can assign page up, page down, next, previous, first, last, or new selection action{s} to these object{s}.

Q: Can I Display the Current Number of Selected Records?
A: Yes. Drag & drop a text object onto the screen. Assign it the Special Text object (widget) of Record Count. Size it and place it anywhere you want! This widget displays the current number of selected records in a format of Record x of y.

Q: Can Database Aware Objects Have Actions Assigned?
A: Yes. Each database object can be assigned one of over 25 different actions. See the Touch-Action FAQ for details.

Q: If I Display Phone Numbers From a Database, Can These Numbers Be Used to Make an Out-Going Call?
A: Yes. For each object who's field is your "telephone number", you may assign the action of Touch to Dial, and select the additional option of Use Text of Target as Dialing Sequence. When touched, these objects will then place a call based on their content.

Q: Can Certain Fields Be Linked To Other Screens Based on the Content of the Field?
A: Yes. If - for example - you are displaying restaurants, you may optionally design additional screens for any or all of your restaurant clients. By naming a screen the same name as the value of a field (like "Bob's Diner"), Kiosk-in-a-Box will automatically provide the touch-link to these matches if the object's action is set to Go to Caption of Target.

Q: Can I Go To Another Screen To Display More Information Based Upon the User's Current Database Selection?
A: Yes. When a user touches an object within your database grid, they are actually establishing the "active record". If they then go to a different screen that contains database aware objects, and these objects are set to display the "active record", additional information may be provided.

Q: Can I Provide a Printout Based on Database Information?
A: Yes. You can either set up a screen to contain all the information necessary (like a map graphic, descriptions, directions, and phone number) and print the screen or you can print a database report with up to 8 fields using the contents of the active record. Your choice!
